From IGT, we organized a three-day intensive workshop at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), focused on 3D Slicer and the SOFA framework — two powerful open-source tools widely used in digital health and biomedical research.

This course was aimed at undergraduate and master’s students, as well as early-career researchers interested in learning how to perform anatomical segmentation, soft tissue simulation, and biomechanical modeling.
No prior experience was required — we started from the basics and built up through practical, hands-on sessions.
The program included:
- Introduction to 3D Slicer and AI-based segmentation
- Fundamentals of biomechanical simulation with SOFA
- Hands-on hackathon and AR/VR integration
- Demos with immersive technology and flash talks from guest institutions
